It’s all the rage here apparently, Well, not real “rage” actually, just the facts on the ground as we’ve wandered the streets of Norway. Like many urban environments, there are scooters e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. In and of itself, not really a problem. But the drivers? Yeah, that’s a problem.
If they would pick a “lane” and stick to it, like the sidewalk or the street, that might help some. But I guess they pay taxes on both so, depending on traffic conditions, either one at any given moment is an option.
It’s not just scooters. There are other players in the game and on the streets (and, as mentioned, sidewalks) – light rail, cyclists, automobiles, trucks. All moving at velocities higher than you might expect on crowded thoroughfares. But especially the scooters.
And you don’t even have to sign up to play. As a pedestrian, you’re in the game. Just think of it as playing on beginner or easy level, with no need for wheels of any sort. (Of course, on easy level, you are also the most vulnerable.)
We’ve had a couple close calls so far, but we’re still in the game. And today, we became aware of another level – Segways! Let the games begin!
