Everybody goes to Santiago de Compostela because that’s where you get your compostela – the certificate that shows you completed the Camino.
But the actual end of the Way is on the peninsula of Finisterre, where the final mile marker is located near a lighthouse. If you walk it, it’s another 2 or 3 days to get there from Santiago. Or about 3 hours by bus – which is what we did.
The name Finisterre comes from the Romans, who considered it the end of the earth – finis terre.
Fisterra is a tiny fishing village not far from the lighthouse, situated along a beautiful coastline. It’s a pretty quiet village, but Robin found us a Michelin-star restaurant – Restaurante Terra – where we had lunch one day.
Relaxing at the coast – what’s not to like? Well, the relaxing part, apparently. We decided to walk out to the lighthouse from Fisterra – it was only a 4 mile trip, but stretching our legs felt good.
This whole walking thing, it might just stick…
